The game was close with good goaltending on both sides. The first and third periods saw no scoring. In the second, the Roadrunners tallied first but the Warriors were able to follow up with two goals close together and hold on through the thrid for the win. Despite holding on fairly well and keeping things close through the second period, the Zephyrs blew the Warriors away like the west wind their name represents (yes, kind of lame but Zephyr is a reference to a breeze from the west or the god of west wind - look it up). Despite scoring a season-high 6 and gaining the lead about midway through the game, the Warriors were unable to hang on as Eagles scooped them up like a delicious northern pike. Scoring never started to roll for the Warriors and in the end they were edged out by a goal for a second straight 2-3 loss. Parking was limited and crowds were huge as the Warriors attempted a 3rd period comeback. They fell one goal shy however and had to tally another loss. Good team play, a healthy amount of shots, and solid goaltending were not enough to get some goals or stop the Admirals from getting a couple of their own. Like with the coyote, no amount of Acme products could help the Warriors win. The Warriors struck first but the Roadrunners quickly came back with two. The score remained 2-1 until the third period when the Roadrunners knocked in the final goal. It was a tight game but in the end the Warriors found themselves under an anvil, at the bottom of a ravine, and flattened against a painted-on tunnel opening. In a similar fashion to such a movie many individual battles took place. Instead of ninja guys in masks, elephants, and a weird tall guy with lots of piercings that walks on people's backs for stairs the Warriors instead chose to put forth a strong effort from all three lines. Coupled with strong defensive play and perfect goaltending the Warrior's 4 game no-win streak was broken. In the end the Thunder Chix put up 7 goals despite being slightly outshot by the unproductive Warriors. Offense was lacking and despite hanging on fairly well for a while the Zephyrs were still able to put in 2 goals each period for the win. In the frozen, randomly-located New Hope Ice Arena the Warriors and Eagles put up equal defensive performances after 3 periods and 5 minutes of overtime. For the record - a black and gold warrior logo looks better than a brown moose on the Penguins jersey . . . too bad that didn't help our game.
